Noticeables - October Edition
Moments of enchantment, curiosity, delight
A few months ago, I started keeping a note in my phone of little things that catch my eye throughout the month. I don’t do anything with it, it’s the exercise in noticing that is the point. I have a mind that always seems to be somewhere else and this little practice helps me to be more present, even if just for a few moments.
October’s list, in the order in which they were added:
Feather season continued
Jack playing in the neighbor’s sprinkler as it came through the fence
That one cheeseburger with the perfect gluten-free bun - soft and perfectly toasted
Brunch with new noble friends
Lola and her elephant
The undeniable perfection of my mom’s pumpkin bars
The smell of the morning after overnight rain
Being cold after a season of being hot
Brunch with my young niece
The Thursday evening that I ate ice cream (really frozen yogurt gelato - Noosa’s Out of This Swirl Lemon Bar) for dinner
Finding treasures at a second-hand store with a good friend
The weird little bloom on one of my house plants
Punk rock elm
Learning that lichen is really two organisms - alga and fungus - that live in balanced reciprocity. We have a lot to learn from lichen.
If you created your own list from this month, what’s on it? If you’re so inclined, please share a few. I love other people’s curiosities and delights almost as much as I love my own.
Until next time,
Kim

Ohhhh love the smell the morning after rain. For me it’s all the seed pods that litter the sidewalk and my son’s apple pie.
